Helen Flanagan interview Whichbingo

Helen Flanagan on Corrie, Confidence, and Life in the Public Eye

Helen Flanagan has been a familiar face on British television for years, having first stepped onto the Coronation Street set as a child. From gripping storylines to reality TV moments that made headlines, she has carved out a career that spans soap stardom, jungle challenges, and social media influence. Sitting down with WhichBingo, Helen reflected on her journey so far, her hopes for the future, and how she navigates life in the public eye.

Embracing Growth and Change

Reflecting on her twenties, Helen acknowledges how much personal growth she has experienced. With age comes confidence, and she admits that, like many, she used to overthink situations. However, time has taught her that most things work out in the end.

Now in her thirties, Helen is focused on embracing her experiences and the lessons she has learned along the way. This extends to her professional life, particularly when it comes to her Coronation Street character, Rosie Webster.

Rosie Webster’s Future on Coronation Street

Helen has made no secret of her love for Corrie and her openness to returning to the show that changed her life.

“I really want to get back into acting. I kind of feel like all my early 20s, I’ve been really lucky but I spent most of them having babies and everything. Especially now my son’s going to school in September I think I want to concentrate a little bit more on work which is nice.”

Now, Helen envisions a different future for Rosie—one that reflects her own evolution. If she had her way, Rosie would return to the Rovers Return as a barmaid, bringing a fresh, mature perspective to the role. She sees this as an opportunity to show how the character has grown and adapted, much like she has in her own life.

“I would love to go back to Coronation Street…a single mum with a real storyline, with two kids that she dumps with Sally to have her Rovers return play out an iconic barmaid role”.

While Helen has always been open to new opportunities, she has spent the past four years settled in Bolton after moving frequently during her past relationship. Now, with her youngest child preparing for school, she hints that a change might be on the horizon.

Life on Set and Fond Memories

Having spent much of her youth on the Corrie set, Helen has countless cherished memories. Being part of such an iconic Northern show was a proud moment for her, and she looks back fondly on everything from late-night shoots to her first on-screen kiss. Working alongside Sally Dynevor and Michael Le Vell, who play her on-screen parents, also holds a special place in her heart.

Dealing with Online Trolling and Social Media

As someone who has been in the public eye from a young age, Helen has had to develop resilience against online negativity. While she acknowledges that trolling is, unfortunately, a reality of fame, she chooses to focus on creating a positive space on social media.

For Helen, authenticity is key. She strives to share her real-life moments with followers, whether she’s glammed up for an event or embracing the chaos of motherhood with her hair in a bun. She also emphasizes the importance of curating a social media feed that uplifts rather than brings people down, following accounts that promote body confidence and self-love.

From the Jungle to the Ballroom?

Reality TV has played a big part in Helen’s career, with her I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! appearances making her a household name. Despite her reputation for struggling with trials in the jungle, she has no regrets and credits the show for helping to shape her career.

Before heading to South Africa for the All Stars version of I’m a Celeb, Helen even hired a phobia coach to prepare for the challenges ahead—a decision that paid off as she faced her fears head-on.

But what about Strictly Come Dancing? As a self-confessed fan of the show, Helen admits she would love to take part, though she doesn’t consider herself a natural dancer. She was originally offered a place on Strictly at 22 but opted for I’m a Celeb instead. If the opportunity came around again, she says she would absolutely relish the challenge and give it her all.
